The theory of translation techniques by Molina (1998) was used as a basic theory. This research used qualitative and quantitative method to explain the results of the analysis of the types of translation techniques and to calculate what type of translation technique is dominant to be used. The data source which was used in this research was food and beverage packaging. The data were collected by finding the food and beverage products in the various super markets. The information, sentences, phrases or words in the packaging were collected by taking a picture. The English texts were compared with the Indonesian ones and classified based on their types of translation techniques. The data were analyzed descriptively using the theory of translation techniques. After data were analyzed, they were calculated to find what type of translation technique was dominant to be used in food and beverage packaging. The result of this research showed that translation techniques used in translating the words, expressions, sentences and information that contained in food and beverage packaging were literal, borrowing, amplification, description, reduction, and calque. The most dominant type of translation technique applied is borrowing technique with 37 data (37%) found.
2024-01-17T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2024 KULTURISTIK: Jurnal Bahasa dan Budaya https://www.ejurnal.warmadewa.ac.id/index.php/kulturistik/article/view/8951 ILLOCUTIONARY ACTS FOUND IN LITTLE WOMEN MOVIE SCRIPT 2024-02-05T12:44:22+07:00 Ni Nyoman Arisma Duniary arismaduniary@gmail.com Kuntayuni kuntayuni@warmadewa.ac.id I Wayan Budiarta iw.budiarta@warmadewa.ac.id
This study focuses on illocutionary act found in Little Women Movie Script." In this research, the data is taken from the Little Women movie script. Two main theories are used for this study. The first theory is pragmatic theory from George Yule (1996). The second theory is the function of the illocutionary act theory as explained by Leech (1983) in the book entitled "Principles of Pragmatics". The methods of this research are divided into four steps, they are finding or deciding the data source, collecting the data, analysing the data, and presenting the data. The data is collected by reading the movie script several times and underlining or marking the illocutionary acts that are found in the movie script. After that, the data is classified based on the various types and functions of illocutionary acts. Furthermore, the data is also analysed using Yule’s points of view in pragmatic. In presenting the data, descriptive research is used in this research. Based on the analysis, the types of illocutionary acts that are found in the Little Women movie script are declaration, representative, expressive, directive, and commissive. Meanwhile, the functions of the illocutionary act that are found in the movie script are competitive, convivial, collaborative, and conflictive.
2024-01-18T10:08:44+07:00 Copyright (c) 2024 KULTURISTIK: Jurnal Bahasa dan Budaya https://www.ejurnal.warmadewa.ac.id/index.php/kulturistik/article/view/8991 FAKTOR BLOCKING DALAM BAHASA INGGRIS 2024-02-05T13:01:33+07:00 I Wayan Ana ana.wayan@gmail.com Made Subur madesubur877@gmail.com
Word formation is a dynamic process that contributes significantly to vocabulary expansion. This study explores the various factors that hinder the formation of words in the English language. The research investigates linguistic elements that act as barriers to the organic growth of the lexicon. Linguistic factors encompass syntactic constraints, morphological irregularities, and phonological intricacies, which pose challenges to the seamless creation of new words. Additionally, the study delves into semantic ambiguities that impede the clear delineation of meanings, hindering the formation of concise and universally accepted terms. The method applied in this research is descriptive qualitative with the data taken from various resources. The theory applied for this research is the theory of Aronoff. Based on the result of analysis, it is found that blocking refers to the non-acceptance of a new word form not due to the violation of word formation rules but rather because of the existence of another simpler form that precedes it or has already been used for a different meaning. There are two types of blocking in English, namely type-blocking and token-blocking. Type-blocking involves the competition of regular morphological processes, while token-blocking is the potential blocking of regular forms by synonymous words that already exist. There are three conditions for token-blocking: synonymy, productivity, and frequency. Factors causing blocking in the formation of new words can be classified into four categories: phonological, morphological, semantic, and aesthetic.
2024-01-20T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2024 KULTURISTIK: Jurnal Bahasa dan Budaya https://www.ejurnal.warmadewa.ac.id/index.php/kulturistik/article/view/6852 REDUPLIKASI NOMINA DAN VERBA DALAM MASYARAKAT PAKKADO’ DI SULAWESI BARAT 2024-02-05T13:10:10+07:00 Nirwan nirwan@pertiwi.ac.id Suliadi suliadiabet@yahoo.com Uun Auliaus Sakinah uun.auliauss@gmail.com
This study discusses the reduplication pattern in Pakkado' society by taking verbs and nouns as the main attention of discussion.
